Create a Load

DataLoad processes data and commands in DataLoad's spreadsheet cells. A command cell causes DataLoad to do something other than send data to the target application's fields. For instance, a command may cause the cursor to tab to the next field or save the current record. Any cell's contents which isn't recognised as a command is treated as data, and is sent verbatim to the active window. Data is sent to the target window by one of two methods, either copying and pasting or by simulating keystrokes. The former method is preferable but keystroke simulation can be very useful in the right circumstances. See the following sections for more information:

Data files should be planned carefully, ensuring all fields and required navigation are catered for. In Oracle Applications a good starting point can be to Export data (Action->Export or File->Export) from the Oracle screen to your PC and then manipulate it in DataLoad. By registering DataLoad as the helper application in your browser, the export data can be loaded directly into DataLoad. The layout of data and commands should take into account that DataLoad processes the selected cells from left to right and top to bottom. Furthermore, for the purposes of readability, it is recommended that each record to be loaded corresponds to one DataLoad row.

A number of example DataLoad loads are included with DataLoad, while further spreadsheets are included on the web site - http://www.dataload.net. These are ready to use and highlight the features described in this User Guide. These files also make good templates for new loads.
