Before starting a load, you must ensure that the 'target window' field is completed with the window name that is to receive the first keystroke. This can be selected from the drop down list, which lists all of the windows that are currently open.
Having ensured the target form is open, check the cursor is in the correct place. i.e. If your first command is to send data, then the cursor must be in the first cell that you want to send the data to.
Finally, apart from entering some data and/or DataLoad commands in the grid, ensure that a Command Group has been selected.
Once you have prepared your DataLoad spreadsheet, you can send the data to your target application. You can send all of the cells in your data sheet or just a limited selection. You may consider sending a limited selection if you are testing or debugging a section of your DataLoad sheet. To send a limited selection of the DataLoad sheet, highlight the cells you would like to send.
To run the load you can either select 'Send data' from the 'Tools' menu or click on the shortcut icon.

The following dialog box will appear:
Select whether all cells should be processed, as shown above, or just the selected cells. If you have not yet selected a Command Group and Target Window then that must be done now.
Click 'OK' and the load will proceed. If the 'show progress bar' option is active the progress bar will be displayed, indicating how many columns of the current row have been sent and how many rows of the total load have been processed.
A DataLoad sheet will send data until it either:
has sent all of the selected data
OR
is stopped by the user.
If the DataLoad sheet has loaded all of the selected cells the following message will be displayed:

This message confirms how many rows were sent and the time it took to load the data.
It is sometimes necessary to stop the load before it is complete. This can be achieved by pressing the 'ESC' (Escape) key. DataLoad will stop once the current command is complete. For that reason it may not finish immediately, however in this situation it is not necessary to repeatedly press ESC or hold the key down.
If a load is stopped by using the ESC key the following message is displayed:

Unfortunately there is no way to have DataLoad stop automatically upon an Oracle Applications error. This is because there is no feedback mechanism from the Apps to DataLoad whereby DataLoad can tell what is going on in the Applications. Therefore you have to watch the load to ensure the load is still working correctly. If you see it going wrong then you can press the Escape key to stop DataLoad and it will terminate as soon as it completes its current cell processing. If you use the ESC key to stop the load, you will be able to start loading again by highlighting the data in the spreadsheet that did not load, and selecting the 'Load selected cells' value.
DataLoad Professional loads the data through the forms server and this technology ensures a much faster and error free load. If the limitations of DataLoad Classic, described above, are not acceptable then please contact us sales about DataLoad Professional.
