Underground drainage channels were dug out and installed at the Leigh Byway, whilst drainage gulleys were also dug out along the west end of the track.

Digging a channel between the two fields to drain the water off without soaking the byway, you can see the strong plastic tubing that was used for the drain.

A membrane was the fitted over the pipe to protect it from the stone and gravel that would go on top.

Then the trench was re-filled with a sand and gravel mix (kindly donated by Dorset CC) to protect the drainage pipe.
